About Bob Edwards

Bob Edwards is a photographer whose most recent work has been published in the the Everton Football Club 'Shirtzine' he also provided the images for 'The Beatles' Landmarks in Liverpool' book by Daniel K. Longman. He has had  images published in Digital Photographer Magazine and in July 2018 a selection of Bob Edwards photographs were displayed in the Tate Liverpool Gallery.

Bob was the winner of the‘LOOK International Photography Festival Award 2016’.

‘LOOK International Photography Festival Award 2016’

In 2016 LOOK introduced an award for the image that our guest judge believes to best capture the brief we issued for the competition. This year the brief was to capture an image from the Liverpool Pride celebrations. 

The 'Pride of Pride award' was nominated by professional photographer and judge, Michael James O'Brien, who selected Bob Edwards's 'Pride Selfie', as the winning image. Michael (bio below) said of Bob's photo:

“This image is both simple and complex: at once a ‘portrait’ and ‘portrait of a portrait’. Strengthened by two iconic elements: historic architecture and a Pride reveller, the ratio of building-to-figure gives a sense of place and empowerment. The graphic juxtaposition of the building’s rigid lines and colour, against the florid lines of the participant intensify this feeling. The invitation to imagine her snapshot makes this image more interesting. She is not posing for the photographer's camera, but only her own, giving added pride to this moment”. 

Michael James O’Brien received the M.F.A from Yale University where he studied in the 1970’s with Walker Evans. He was associate professor of photography at Kenyon College in Ohio and taught at the New School in New York City in the mid-80’s. His work has been commissioned by magazines such as The New Yorker, Departures, Rolling Stone,  Elle D├ęcor and the New York Times. His clients include Illy Caffe, Penhaligon’s London, L’Artisan Parfumeur, Longchamp, Piazza Sempione, Bergdorf Goodman, Thierry Mugler, Polo Ralph Lauren, Nautica, Saks Fifth Avenue and TBWA. In 1993 he began a collaboration with Matthew Barney, producing all of Barney’s still photographs and creating a photographic parallel to his Drawing Restraint 7, Cremaster 1, 2, 4, 5. These works have been exhibited at the Musee Moderne in Paris from October 2002-January 2003; at the Guggenheim New York in 2003 and throughout the world.
